I wrote for Education Update for a while in 2001. Since then I left NYC for graduate school, completed a fellowship on Capitol Hill, returned to NY for law school at Columbia, graduated and am working as a labor lawyer. Please let me know if there's an opportunity for me to contribute to Education Update again.

To the Editor:
The USMMA is an integral part of life -- guarding, protecting, and delivering goods via our seas. The students are well-rounded and mannerly. This is a credit to USMMA staff and parents of the students.
I am proud of this Academy and I hope it continues to be a mainstay here in New York. The students are knowledgeable in Math and Science. However, they can also dance.

Response To: Prison College Programs Unlock the Keys to Human Potential
To the Editor:
I am seeking for a way to become a part of rehabilitating inmates. This is something I strongly believe in. It's a sad day when we allow human beings to sit and "rot" in a prison cell. People make mistakes and deserve a second chance. We as fellow human beings should take more time to help these people make things right. I believe our focus as a country should be on rehabilitation not completely on punishment.

I am so happy that someone like Margaret is on the front line, someone from TC! As a returned Peace Corps Volunteer, and then a recent Special Education major from TC, I am also interested in the empowerment of girls in Afghanistan, particularly after Afghani women visited Teachers College with their stories regarding their struggles to regain their independence and education. Thank you for doing all that you are! Please send any more information on this project that is available, and let me know if any more helping hands are needed.
