Technology Supports Students
with Disabilities
New computer hardware and software and other technologies
designed to enhance learning opportunities for children with
disabilities was demonstrated recently to illustrate how technology
could be used to teach a range of basic life skills, facilitate
access to the general curriculum for all students (including
those who are deaf), help students apply strategies and skills
learned to real-life situations, monitor behavior and social
interaction, and integrate curriculum standards.
New education technology has the potential to help millions
of children and their families each school year. Many schools,
however, are unaware of or have not yet fully employed new
technologies, such as computer-based learning, that offer children
with disabilities new ways to learn and achieve at high levels.#
